The President and Provost

Award for Teaching Excellence

On March 27, 2008 members of the Council on Teaching hosted a State Room reception to recognize the superlative teaching efforts of 16 tenure-track or tenure-track faculty members and instructors.  Since 2004, the President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence has honored outstanding UI teachers.  President Sally Mason, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Lola Lopes spoke at the reception, acknowledging the vital and sustained contributions these individuals make to the University’s teaching and learning mission.

"On a university campus, inspiration probably happens most readily and most often in the classroom," President Mason said in her reception address. "That special one-on-one exhilaration of sharing an idea, a discovery, or an understanding happens most dramatically through teaching."

Members of the Council on Teaching select the award winners from nominations submitted by the colleges.
